Abstract

This text deals with historically important ways of calculation of values of trigonometric functions. We start with Ptolemy's Almagest.

Then we mention continuation of this tradition (Aryabhata, al-Kashi, Copernicus) and a modern algorithms (CORDIC). In the second part we propose hypothesis connecting the beginnings of trigonometry with early astronomy.
