Abstrakt
The Czechoslovak Republic provided an enormous assistance for the Russian emigration in 1921. It was named ìThe Russian Action of Helpî.
It was supported by significant politicians of those days: President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, Prime Minister Karel Kramar, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Edvard Benes. The main curator of the action was Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czechoslovak Republic.
The Russian Foreign Historical Archives were established in Prague in 1923. Involvement of the paid and voluntary foreign agents was an important reason for successful work of the Russian Foreign Historical Archives.
The agents were active in the various centers of the Russian emigration including the Republic of Latvia. In 1945, the activities of the Russian Foreign Historical Archives were terminated.
In 1948, the decision was made to deliver the above-mentioned documents to the Slavic Library in Prague where the collection has been stored until the present days.The following aspects are of serious interest for the research of the history of Latvia in inter-war period: activities of the agents and foreign collaborators, private correspondence as well as correspondence of the Russian Foreign Historical Archives with different organizations, etc. It means that for Latvian historians, the documents of the Russian Foreign Historical Archives are considered to be a unique collection of primary historical sources.
