The paper addresses the results of a method for analysis of the structured point clouds with aspect to line symmetry. We focus especially on the point clouds representing specific surfaces - cylinders of revolution and general surfaces of revolution.
We suggest new iterative methods of searching for the axis of symmetry based on differential numerical procedures. The correctness of the algorithms is verified using synthetically generated data and the data obtained by scanning of the geometrical models.
The proposed algorithms are implemented in a modern programming language and interactive environment MATLAB. New designed algorithms are used for the construction of the surface triangulation approximating the given point cloud.
