Abstract

Glycemic variability is a parameter which is calculated either from the results of patient blood glucose measured by glucometer, or the results obtained from continuous glucose monitoring. Experimental and also some clinical studies indicate that increased glycemic variability could let to serious complications of diabetes through induction of increased oxidative stress.

Reducing glycemic variability by suitable antidiabetic treatment thus could lead to long-term decrease of chronic diabetic complications.
