Communication strategies in a Tv talk show

Abstract

The book aims at the popular phenomenon of the current media discourse - a TV talk show. Certain types of them have earned high ratings and can be considered influential media genre showing contemporary Czech language usage and ways of communication.

The influence of talk shows can be seen in the increasing tolerance towards colloquiality (circa two decades ago unnacceptable in public media), in casual or trivial forms of discussing a variety of (sometimes rather serious) issues and, more importantly, in public presentation of informal communicative strategies merging with impoliteness or, in certain subgenres, even with open aggressiveness and offensiveness.
