Ourios Heliopolitanus. Inscription kept in the Institute of Classical Archaeology, Charles University

Abstract

Publication (editio princeps) of a new inscription from the depository of the Institute of Classical Archaeology, Charles University. The inscription is of unknown origin, but it probably comes from Attica and is dated to the second half of the 4th c.

BC. Due to its fragmentary preservation the exact function of the monument cannot be determined.

Nevertheless, the dedicatory function is plausible, as the name of dedicant is attested as Ourios Heliopolitanus (Ourios from Heliopolis) and the accompanying relief has close parallels in Attic epigraphic relief production of the end of the 4th c. BC.
