Abstract

In this article we discussed clinical features of late onset rheumatoid arthritis (LORA), which start is defined after 65 years old age. LORA can be often misdiagnosed due to differential diagnosis problem in elderly.

LORA has often different clinical manifestation then classic rheumatoid arthritis. The new diagnostic approaches and new drugs were introduced through last decade.

The main goal of treatment is to achieve remission and to prevent irreversible joint damage by timely and effective therapy. The disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD) are the baseline therapy of rheumatoid arthritis, however the new biological drugs appeared through the last decade and are reserved for patients with severe form of rheumatoid arthritis with history of DMARD failure.
