Abstract

The paper "Christ and conscience" analyses the tendency to evaluate and see guilt feelings as coming from God, and view conscience as God-given to humans. The paper provides the analysis and definition of "conscience"-syneidesis, and offers a point of view at the phenomenom of conscience in the Old Testament while pointing to the absence of the term.

We can find another term in the OT: heart (lev, levav). Turning to the New Testament, this paper present the Apostle Paul's interpretation in Romans 2:14-15, which offers perhaps the clearest Biblical statement of the role of conscience.

We compare this interpretation with 1 Corinthians. The overview of conscience in psychology, sociology and philosophy will be presented in brief.

The core of this paper-Christ and conscience-will be presented with regard to the unification of conscience in Christ.
