Abstract
This research explores the meaning of the word mesharim in Song of Songs 1:4. It challenges most of the renderings of the term in ancient and modern translations, and in commentaries.
Instead of translating it in judicial, romanticised or rhetorical justificatory language, a bolder approach is proposed that brings out the erotic message of this biblical book much better than the translations to date.
