Abstract

The article presents a summary of cartographic rules concerning the depiction of borders. Borders are important geographic features and correct cartographic treatment of borders is critical in creating high-quality maps.

The article briefly presents boundaries in the context of geographical regionalization and from the perspective of representing areas on maps. It also discusses select properties of borders that are essential for cartography.

The article then presents a key section with detailed descriptions of methods for depicting borders on maps. It emphasizes the explanation of the various parameters of line symbols.

Using a number of examples, the text focuses on the boundaries of administrative units and on resolving complicated areas.
