Crusade projects of Bohemian kings against Prussia

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

The author deals with the crusades to North -East Europe of 13th century, mainly with the crusades of the King Přemysl Ottokar II of Bohemia in the years 1254-1255 and 1267-1268 , and with its echoes in contemporary sources. Although the crusades to North -Eastern Europe played a relatively important role in the politics of the Czech state in the 13th century, they did not receive the expected echo in the literature of the Czech lands.

Only the author of Descriptiones terrarum assured the official propaganda of the progress of King of Bohemia in Prussia. The Crusades Přemysl Ottokar to Prussia should not only restore the reputation of Přemysl Ottokar by the Pope but also bring the king sovereignty over the newly conquered territories which should simultaneously fall under the control of the bishop of Olomouc which should be promoted to the rank of Archbishop of mission.
