The post communism era in Czechia could be characterized by an increase of a divergence within the society. The divergence concerns various areas of human lives and the differences are even greater if it comes to the regional level.
This contribution deals with the differences in population development within municipalities in the Central Bohemian Region after 1991 and their impact on elementary school capacities. Population development is being analysed via Webb graph method.
The expected result is the polarity between suburban municipalities around Prague, the capital city and municipalities on the periphery of the Central Bohemian Region. Suburban municipalities' population has been growing rapidly and therefore the municipalities very often lack elementary school capacities.
On the other hand, population in municipalities on the periphery of the region has been decreasing and ageing and elementary school capacities are not entirely utilized.
