Abstract

Original textbook includes in the first part (Chapters 1-6) interpretation of the development of sections for information science, documentation and communication of two major international bibliographical databases PASCAL and FRANCIS, which produces the French Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (INIST). Included is information about the producer and presented are the basic characteristics of both databases.

Special attention is devoted to the multilingual thesaurus (descriptors in French, English and Spanish, partly in German) and the website within the portal "TermSciences", and also to the classification scheme for information science, documentation and communication, and presentation of its Web portal "RefCode". Overview of classes and their hierarchically ordered parts is given in Czech translation, in the annexes is given in the original French and English equivalent. - The second part of the textbook is devoted to a brief interpretation of the first principal components of search (retrieval) system EBSCOhost (includes basic types of search and query language operators).

Currently valid Search fields are presented in detail, and numerous databases PASCAL and FRANCIS indexes with comments. Sub-sections are provided with a great variety of examples of search queries (in information science, documentation and communication), including the results valid for early 2013 (trial testing the licensed databases).

Textbook is terminated by bibliographies of recommended literature to study.
