Abstract
The chapter provides a perfect example of an entrepreneur whose self-realisation in the business world was enabled by the emergence of joint-stock companies. The social and economic rise of Karel Dimmer is depicted in the context of the phenomenon of Czech joint-stock companies and by the analysis of the business strategy of the joint-stock brewery in Smichov where he was a member of the management throughout several decades.
