Sandstone columns of the 3rd Nile Cataract (Nubia, Northern Sudan)

Abstrakt

Using the example of Jebel Wahaaba, the perfectly developed and exposed colonnade in the Nubian Sandstone situated in the 3rd Nile Cataract area in Northern Sudan, the paper draws some conclusions on the origin of columnar jointing in quartzose sandstones in general.
