The importance of home preparation for a young schoolchild

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2014

Abstract

The publication seeks to grasp comprehensively the theme of school starting and related school duties (home preparation for school) with respect to the three main actors concerned - school starting children, their parents and teachers. The publication is, however, clearly focused on the child and its healthy psychological development during pre-school years and early years of schooling.

The publication also focuses on how parents prepare children for school, on school choice in relation to educational approaches applied in the family and in relation to the personal qualities of the child. A separate publication topic is adaptation to the school as a process rather than as a question of a week horizon.

It emphasizes finding of common ways in this important developmental break and how to make it to the child as easy as possible, especially in the areas of cooperation of parents, teachers and young schoolchildren. The publication also offers chapters that describe developmental characteristics of preschool and primary school children, with emphasis on the ongoing changes when entering school.

Great attention is paid to school readiness and its determination and to success at school. There are also presented outcomes of international Czech-French-Canadian study with the same focus
