The paper explores the concept and results of case studies of the implementation of information technologies and the development of information technology competencies into pupils' and teachers' educational activities and into the school educational environment, which were realized in 2013 as part of extensive research focused on the field of information technology education in primary and lower-secondary schools in the Czech Republic. The main research method was a questionnaire for teachers, by means of which relevant data from more than 1000 primary and lower-secondary schools were obtained.
In the second phase of research, all together six case studies were conducted in selected schools. The purpose of case studies was to supplement other applied methods by an observation, a discussion and an interview right in the school environment and to partly complement the findings of the research.
