Sex, Love and Emotions: the Třeboň Region of 1700-1750 (the South-Bohemian Country under a Magnifying Glass)

Publication at Catholic Theological Faculty, Faculty of Arts |
2014

Abstract

The essay covers some aspects of the sexual behaviour mainly of village people living on the Třeboň dominion between 1660 and 1760. From the more than 2,000 interrogation reports, it pays attention to those containing emotional relations towards the opposite sex, such as open expression of love, affectionateness, etc.

In many cases, it occurred in complicated life conditions of the women and men. The essay shows that the conduct and decision-making of the South Bohemian serfs was in many aspects far more independent than it is traditionally presumed in the literature.
