The chapter deals with economic development of the First Czechoslovak republik, especially with regard to the changes of business environment. After the WWI entrepreneurs had to cope with the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian market, adapt their business strategies to the new constitutional changes, and pass muster under the growing competitive pressure during the years of he economic crisis in the 1930s.
Not all of them were successful but some, thanks to unparalleled personal effort, invention and tenacity, attained remarkable results with their firms winning recognition in the wider European and even the world market.
