Beads Decoration on Head-Dresses: Materials From Collection of the Slovak National Museum

Abstract

Beads decorations on folk headdresses from collection of the Slovak National Museum are consider in this article. Presented series of head-dresses are from different locations of Slovakia and belong to period from end of 19th to begin of 20th centuries.

Different kind of beads fancywork are studied on a basis of these subjects. Simple and complicated beads decorations were distinguished depending on materials, techniques of decoration, ornaments complexity and quality of beads.

Color glass pearls in combination with yarn fancywork formed simple ornaments. However, fancywork by fine beads provided complicated artistic compositions on surface of women folk head-dresses.

Influence of city fashion on traditional folk dress decoration is considered on basis of this fancywork type.
