Kafka's Office Publications: Czech Translations (1909-1916)

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2014

Abstract

The paper is focused on studying Czech translations of Kafka's office articles - first translations of Kafka's texts - published in Czech versions of the annual reports (and one anniversary report) of the Workmen's Accident Insurance Institute in Prague from 1909-1916. Both, Kafka's contributions and their Czech translations, are presented in the context of his work, of the corpus of his office writings, of their history in Czech archives, and of Kafka's working in the office.

Also the criteria of determining the authorship of these anonymous texts are treated, as well as the stylistic and lingustic qualities of Kafka's originals and of their Czech translations. The paper also includes a bibliography of these translations.
