Construction of subjectivity in the printed media text

Abstract

The study concentrates on the area of language subjectivity construction and of effects of the author-subject presence in the text. It is illustrated on an example of a qualitative analysis of two journalistic texts: Czech and French political commentary.

The author in the study also shortly lists some theoretical linguistics and theory of media approaches to the language subjectivity in printed media while at the same time building the analysis on the knowledge of the French theory discourse analysis (concentrating on the so called language sciences). The approach to the communication perspective (énonciation) is closely connected to the pragmalinguistics paradigms: the intentions and the purpose of the communication, emotionality and argumentativeness of the address.

There are several very important variables in this approach: modalizators, polyphonic perspective of the text, intertextuality, interdiscoursiveness and the importance of the use of connectors for the overall tone (purpose, main message) of the text. Further in the study, there are presented the results of a very complex research which demonstrate how the attitude and opinion of the author of the text differs in Czech and French media texts (interrelated to pragmatic aspects and structural differences of both languages), which language instruments are for the author characteristic and which standpoint the author takes.

One of the most important conclusions of the research is the impact of the overall text structure (composition) on its argumentativeness.
