Abstract
The article presents an overview of the differences between the German and Czech tradition of English studies at Charles University and German University in Prague in the years 1912-1939. The focus is on the variation in the number and topics of dissertation theses written by students of both faculties in the context of contemporary doctoral examination regulations.
