Abstract

We discuss the role of relative entropies in the analysis of complete fluid systems. The relative entropy, or rather relative energy functional measures the "distance" between a weak solution of a given system of equations and any other trajectory ranging in the same function space.

We introduce a relative entropy functional for the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system based on the ballistic free energy and discuss possible applications in the mathematical analysis of singular limits.
