Abstract

Results of two-dimensional PIC particle simulations are presented. We investigated electropositive low-temperature Ar plasma as well as an idealized electronegative plasma with variable electronegativity.

The electronegative plasma contained electrons, Ar+ and O ions and a continuous neutral background of Ar. Our aim was rst to describe an electropositive magnetized sheath and then to study the eects of electronegative species (i.e., heavy negative charge carriers) on the structure of sheath and on the transport of particles.

The simulations of electropositive magnetized sheath showed a presence of trapped electrons near the positively-biased probe in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic eld. A stripe of missing electrons was found in the vicinity of the probe along the magnetic eld.

The electrons in this region can be, according to our results, replaced by negative ions.
