Abstract

In the interstellar clouds where the temperatures are in a range of 10-100 K it is crucial to understand the mechanism of ion-molecular reactions of different ions with molecular hydrogen. The H2 molecule exists in para- and ortho- nuclear spin states.

The effect of H2 rotational excitation, which is related to the ortho-/para- nuclear spin state configuration, was measured in our laboratory. This paper presents a review of previously published results about the reactions of N+ and H+ with H2 at low temperatures together with preliminary results concerning the interaction of OD- with H2.
