The Polemics of Nahmanides

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

The book presents and analyses some polemical aspects of the work of Moses ben Nahman, also known as Nahmanides. It discusses his engagement in the so-called Maimonidean controversies in the 1230s, as well as his public defence of Judaism in a confrontation with Paul Christian, Jewish apostate turned Dominican friar, in what became known as the Barcelona disputation of 1263.

Apart from studies examining these events, the book contains Czech translations of the related primary sources.
