Angular unconformity in the Malesice Member of the Mšeno-Roudnice and Žihle basins (Stephanian B)

Abstract

Angular unconformity at the upper part of the Malesice Member of the Stephanian B Slaný Formation of the Central and Western Bohemia basins is described. It has been long recognized in well logs and seismic profiles in the Mšeno-Roudnice basin.

Recently, this angular unconformity was observed also on outcrops in the Žihle basin. The unconformity occurs within the upper part of the fine-grained lacustrine series comprising organic rich horizontally laminated clayey siltstones and very fine-grained sandstones.

Fine-grained series below the unconformity surface is inclined to the north to northwest while that above the unconformity is inclined to the southwest. Planar erosional surface of angular unconformity overlain by claystone argues for synsedimentary tilting of lake floor rather than for simple erosional contact of prodelta lobes.
