The Quantum of Plurality. The relationship of singular and plural (and singularia and pluralia tantum) in Czech nouns

Abstrakt

The analysis of the quantitative proportions of singularia and pluralia tantum shows a striking difference between these two groups - especially the fact that about 2/7ths of frequent Czech nouns are singularia tantum, as opposed to about 1/70 frequent Czech nouns belonging to pluralia. Furthermore, the findings show that the proportion of singular forms is not related to the frequency of a lemma.
