Abstract

The Czech-Uzbekistani archaeological team conducted between 2008 and 2011 archaeological surface survey in the Sherabad district, South Uzbekistan. This effort yielded substantial amount of fresh archaeological data linked predominantly to the Kushan and Medieval, but also to the earlier periods.

In this article, we pay attention to selected results of this research associated with funeral practices of nomad population of the piedmont steppe in this district, i.e. to nomad burials known as kurgans. One of the kurgans detected during the survey, has been partly excavated in 2014 season.

Additionally, we describe briefly other archaeological sites newly detected in the area between Maydan and Karabag including Burgut Kurgan, important settlement of Yaz I period.
