Abstract

An essay to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of. M.

J. Lermontov characterizes the contemporary reflection of the work of the worldwide known poet.

It discusses inner contradictions and conflicts with society as well as the relation of his work to at-his-time progressing literary tendencies. The essay introduces Lermontov as a master of scenery and love themes, as a poet of human loneliness and existential fears, as a person who perceives the human life as a part of the cosmic events, and who is an author with brave civic ideals.

Lermontov is presented as a pioneer of new methods of art.
