We developed ALAKE, a simple physical model suitable for estimating the influence of a new lake on temperature characteristics in its vicinity. The model consists of straightforward physical equations containing free parameters whose values were determined so that ALAKE outputs approached the "true" values.
To determine the "true" values, we used the COSMO model, which we applied with a horizontal resolution of 333 m. ALAKE was developed for flat terrain and uses relatively easily accessible data.
These conditions, i.e., the availability of listed data and an approximately flat terrain, are fulfilled in Podkrusnohorske Valley, where the application of ALAKE is planned. The comparison of the COSMO and ALAKE outputs showed that the outputs have similar basic features and although they may differ for single terms their climatological characteristics are similar, suggesting that the ALAKE model can estimate the influence of a lake on the temperature characteristics in its vicinity.
