Abstract
Life and evolution belong among most important concepts in modern biology, yet the proper definitions of both is still lacking. Here, I briefly discuss the historical and theoretical frame, definition and history of their perception.
First part, called Biological Event Horizon, consists of three chapters: Biology as a Science of Life, Evolution as Flagship of Biology, and Biological Event Horizon, respectively. These chapters focus on place of biology in modern science, meaning of the definition of life, and, finally, on biological evolution as not only biological, but also philosophical issue.
Great attention is paid to limits of various paradigms. Second part, entitled Symbiotic Interactions - The Dark Matter of Biology, has three chapters as well: Symbiosis as Biological Phenomenon, Language Metaphor of Life, and Symbiotic Interactions - The Dark Matter of Biology.
These parts deal with phenomenon of symbiotic interactions as suitable model of context-dependent associations and language metaphor of life as special metaphor developed for semiotic aspects of living beings by biosemioticians.
