Abstract
The writer Jiří Mařánek worked in the authorities of dramaturgic control that were established in the Czech cinematography after nationalization in 1945. He is a representative of institutional practice consisting of a controlled engagement of writers in dramaturgic and leading roles in cinematography under the management of the newly established Ministry of Information.
The paper inquires into the general premises as well as particular conditions of appoiting Jiří Mařánek to the leadership of Film Artistic Board and the department of State dramaturgy at the ministry. It also encompasses examples of polemics and power conflicts relating to the issue of interaction of film production with the state directive.
