Abstract
This article focuses on the legacy of the Habsburg monarchy in Central Europe. How has its heri-tage impacted identity construction within the region as well as the perceptions of its various nations? The article also points out certain historical parallels concerning contemporary European integration and attempts to identify positive as well as problematic aspects of Austrian-Hungarian heritage.
