Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

Many historical documents proove that the first contacts between Central Europe and Latin America were established soon after the discovery of the New World in the late 15th century. However, it took a long time until the official relations with the former Czechoslovaquia could have been initiated, first in the field of diplomacy and trade and later also in science and culture. This article aims to describe primarily a cultural cooperation between Czechoslovaquia and Ecuador during the second half of the 20th century and - at the same time - to point out a close link of such activities with economic and political direction in both countries.

As the principal source of information we have choosed the funds available from the National Archive and the Archive of the Ministery of Foreign Affaires.
