Abstract
The author starts his article with reflections on philosophy and the Platonic legacy for education. The core of the article concentrates on milestones in the theory of education in Czech pedagogic (G.
A. Lindner, Josef Hendrich, Jan Uher and Otokar Chlup).
The postwar education theory reminded some general features follow Marxist era. Analyzed in detail turnover theory of education after 1989 and the work of the most prominent Czech theorist of education - Jiri Pelikan.
