Quality of life, depression rate and eating habits before and after bariatric surgery

Abstract

The bariatric surgery plays an important role in treatment of obesity and related medical comorbidities. Also several psychological aspects improve.

The study examined changes before bariatric procedure and after 6 months. The factors explored were: obesity - specific quality of life (Obesity and Weight Loss Quality of Life and Weight Related Symptom Measures), symptoms of depression (Beck Depression Inventory - II) and eating habits (Three Factor Eating Questionnaire).

The results show a remarkable positive effect of bariatric surgery on weight loss and psychological variables, on the quality of life, and the BDI score (p<0,001)
