Optical sensor module for the detection of chemical compounds in gas phase

Abstract

Technical solution of the sensor module construction for determination of the presence of organic compounds in gas phase by means of photoluminescence changes of sensitive sensor elements is presented. The aim of the solution is the detection of diacetyl in gas phase mixture, the sensor module can be applied for detection other volatile organic compounds as well.

The technical solution optimizes the detection chamber construction, way of optical excitation and photoluminescence signal collection taking into account the necessary filtration of stray excitation light, minimization of electrical interferences between excitation light diodes and signals of detection photodiodes. The design also takes into account temperature dependence of sensor response of sensitive elements, the need for simple exchange of sensitive elements and the arrangement of sensor field layout for the detection of selected compounds in gas phase mixtures.
