Automatic measuring device for photoluminescence detection of diacetyl and other volatile organic compounds in gas mixture

Publication

Abstract

Technical solution for measurement of photoluminescence sensor response of sensor field for semi-quantitative detection of diacetyl and other volatile organic compounds in gas mixture is presented. Solution is based on simultaneous measurement of sensor responses from individual sensor field elements, that have different molecular system attached to the sensor element surface.

Attached molecular systems exhibit different sensor response toward components of gas mixture and modify sensor response. Determination of concentration of selected component of the system is enabled by sufficiently high number of elements of the sensor field.

Photoluminescence response detection is based on optimization of optical excitation of sensor elements, collection of photoluminescence signal and subsequent processing of electronic signal. Automatic measuring device ensures reproducible preparation of gas mixture for analysis, flow of operation during measurement and final evaluation of sensor response.

The technical design takes into account temperature dependence of sensor response and interfering effect of air oxygen on the photoluminescence sensor response of sensor elements.
