Abstract
In the Czech culture exist two different traditions of comparative studies. On the one hand comparative studies of the modernist trends of Western Europe literatures (romanticism, symbolism, surrealism), on the other hand comoparative Slavic studies, rooted in European conservativism. - The kernel of comparative studies consists in reflecting great periods and civilizations, eg "great stories" of the past.
