On theatre pedagogy by comparing with other language-teaching methods

Abstract

This article examines the presentation of theatre pedagogy (MJT), not in the traditional sense by characterizing the teaching objectives, procedures, activities, etc., but rather by comparing the given method with other language-teaching methods. Five selected methods used in teaching foreign languages are introduced and fundamental aspects - either shared with theatre pedagogy or differing from it - are discussed.

The comparison shows that theatre pedagogy is closest to the communication method, because both methods develop the six components of communication competence in a balanced manner, and to the act & speak method, because both methods utilize theatre to achieve the language-teaching objectives.
