Abstract

The Czech-Uzbekistani archaeological team between 2008 and 2011 conducted archaeological surface surveys in the Sherabad district, southern Uzbekistan. This effort yielded a substantial amount of fresh archaeological data linked predominantly to the Kushana and Medieval periods.

However, some new Early Iron Age sites and new material from the sites already known has been collected. The aim of this paper is firstly to acquaint fellow scholars with the main results of this research and secondly to put this material into a broader context.

In addition to the notes about the new ceramic material itself, attention will be paid to the spatial analysis of settlement patterns, in particular with regard to the transition from the Late Bronze Age and subsequently to the younger historical periods in this clearly defined spatial unit.
