Intersonorant Voicing in the Speech of Czech Learners of English

Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Faculty of Education |
2013

Abstract

The poster presents the results of small-scale research focussed on the incorrect pronunciation of /s/ in words such as basic, disappear, and conversation. Firstly, it scrutinizes the main culprit of this widespread tendency in Czech English - negative transfer from the mother tongue.

Further, intersonorant voicing is approached from the didactic perspective and it is related to the notion of foreign-accentedness.
