Abstract

The present study focuses on the vertical social mobility in the cities of the Early Modern Era. On the example of the city Slaný it demonstrates the mechanisms through which the burghers tried to gain entrance to the elite stratum.

On chosen individuals it also tries to capture their personal motivations. It also outlines the changes brought by the development after the Battle on the White Mountain.
