The aim of the study is to present Jesus Research since J. Weiss and A.
Schweitzer. Emphasis is placed on these figures which opened a new perspective on the personality of Jesus of Nazareth and his work, especially the eschatological and apocalyptical horizon.
In their standpoint, Jesus emphasized the "consistent eschatology", apocalyptic accents and imminent coming of the kingdom of God. This paradigm "apocalyptic Jesus" has set the direction of research until the late 20th century.
This view on Jesus is breaking up the studies of scholars from the Jesus Seminar, who in the nineties presented their concepts of "nonapocalyptic Jesus". J.
D. Crossan, M.
Borg and S. Patterson entered the debate about their concepts with D.
Allison, which builds on the concept of A. Schweitzer.
The defence of each of their standpoints is very beneficial. The study provides a brief overview of positions of the leading scholars in the world research in this area (J.
Klausner, R. Bultmann, G.
Bornkamm, E. Käsemann, G.
Theissen, M. Hengel, G.
Vermes, E. P.
Sanders, P. Pokorný, D.
Flusser, J. D.
G. Dunn).
