The Concept of Trinity by Arnobia of Sicca

Publication |
2014

Abstract

This article aims to introduce to the reader the basic aspects of Trinitarian theology described in the work Adversus nationes, that was written by the Christian author Arnobius of Sicca. After a brief historical introduction, the paper focuses on the characteristics of Arnobius's "Highest God" (Deus summus).

Subsequently, the attention is paid to the character of the Son, his relation to the Father and his role in Arnobius's theology. The paper gives an analysis of Arnobius's theological concepts and marginally mentions other possible sources of the author's theological formation.

Only marginally is dealt with the third person of the Trinity, which our author does not describe in detail.
