In this article we would like to present the first angioplasty of haemodialysis fistula under ultrasonography guidance which was performed in our department. PTA (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty) of a draining vein of a native fistula was indicated in a patient who was included in hemodialysis program.
As contrast media administration was contraindicated for previous severe adverse effect, we decided to perform PTA under ultrasonography guidance. The procedure was successful; the effect was proven both by ultrasonography and measurement in dialysis.
Our experience shows that ultrasonography provides good visualization of instruments and therefore ultrasonography-guided PTA is possible.
