Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

The paper will be devoted to the problem of land division between Greek citizens in ancient Chersonesos and Metaponto (from theoretical and practical point of view) and to the living conditions on farms in both introducted localities, Metaponto (south Italy) and Chersonesos (Crimea, Ukraine). The theoretical part will be based on Plato's theory of equality between citizens and the procedure of establishing a new colony (mentioned in Nomoi, book V).

The practical part will result in the first place from archeological findings but also from epigraphic evidence. The focus will be especially in the researches documenting the development of rural environs of mentioned ancient cities and finding parallels but also showing the regional differences between these areas ( for example dimensions of the land-plots, differences in types of residental architecture, grown agricultural products, bred livestock etc.).

As the work covers also agriculture it will include the results of paleobotanical, archeozoological and palynological research, too.
