Trailing digital dementia: are technologies making us dumb?

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2014

Abstract

The controversial book of German psychologist Manfred Spitzer has been published almost a two years ago. It deals mainly with the effects of information and communication technologies on children and their cognitive development.

While the author is using simplifying reasoning and sometimes invalid argumentation, the positive impact of the book is apparent: opening the debate about the always-present always-online children and their attention and mental abilities. The time between publishing the book and this review allows us to look on the topic with qualified citation of relevant studies on hand.
